About Timint Areh

Yggdrasil is a Faroese ensemble formed in 1981 by composer & pianist Kristian Blak, who has written most of the material for the group. From the very beginning musicians from other countries have been part of the line-up. They have collaborated with Khanty singer and dancer Vera Kondrateva as soloist since first concert in Surgut 2015, Vera Kondrateva and Yggdrasil recorded the CD Lipet Ei (The Seven Brothers) in 2016 and performed together in Norway, Sweden, Greenland, Sibiria, Italy, Iceland, Germany, Austria, Denmark – and naturally Faroe Islands.

Winner of the I Musical Prize of M.A. Castrén Society (Finland), winner of the Award in the name of I. N. Shestalov for contribution to the preservation and development of native languages, literature, folklore and traditional culture of indigenous peoples of the North. The hero of the book “Faces of Russia. XXI century”.

“I was born on the land of my ancestors, I live here. My ancestors lived here; my parents live here, my family lives here. I know the life of the indigenous peoples of the North from within. Identifying priority areas for improving the quality of life, culture and identity of the indigenous peoples of the Eastern Region of the Russian Federation, the main motivating factor for me is self-identification and ethnic belonging to the indigenous small-numbered peoples, which is directly related to the traditional way of life and desire to create and improve a comfortable living environment for indigenous peoples.” Chairman of the public organization of the Khanty of culture “Mа meeham”. The initiator and organizer of charity events in the city of Lyantor: giving campaign, gathering toys and games for children of a boarding school of Lyamin village and Russkinskaya village, giving campaign for people in difficult life situations.
