Description
Føgur er foldin
“Føgur er foldin” is a beautifully reimagined version of the traditional Faroese hymn often sung in churches during the holiday season. While not originally a Christmas song, this timeless piece holds a special place in Faroese hearts around the holidays.
Artists and long-time collaborators and partners Marianna Winter and Ragnar Finsson have brought new life to the classic, recording and arranging everything in their tiny and cozy apartment. Their acoustic and folky interpretation blends atmospheric sounds, vocoder effects, intricate choir harmonies, and a lot of different guitars creating a modern yet intimate soundscape. A unique aspect of their arrangement is the use of organic, unconventional sounds. Many of the textures were created using everyday objects from their apartment, like a shoelace on a stick, which was played on a banjo to create a strange, brassy tone. This creativity brings an earthy, handmade quality to the track, enhancing its warmth and character.
At its core, their version of “Føgur er foldin” emphasizes the theme of life’s fleeting nature—everything comes and goes, yet there remains one constant truth at its center. This constant truth may vary from person to person. Through their inventive arrangement, they capture the song’s deep spiritual message while adding fresh layers of emotion and sound.
