Power duo Dania O. Tausen and Ragnar Finsson are back with a slow(low key) summer banger about grieving old friendship in the new single “kanst tú fylgja mær?” (“would you follow me?”). These hard-working multi-artists have made quite an impact on the music scene this past year. It’s no surprise that they had the most FMA nominations (local Grammy awards) and won album of the year for Dania’s latest album “ja/nei – og restin av vikuni”, which they produced together last year.
Building upon the momentum of the past year, “kanst tú fylgja mær?” lays a new and exciting path for the budding artists. “kanst tú fylgja mær?” is about grieving old friendships and romanticizing the idea of one last walk home from school with that one childhood friend.
The sentence “kanst tú fylgja mær” can have several meanings in Faroese: 1) asking someone to follow you home 2) asking someone if they understand (do you follow?) 3) asking someone to come grieve you at your funeral (follow someone to the grave/funeral procession)
Throughout the song the protagonists find out that they keep coming back to this subject of grieving when writing songs – and even further find out that they haven’t moved on at all. They keep falling back into old memories when encountering specific smells or walking specific streets and in the end must admit that they would love one last walk together. One where they get to say the unsaid and get some closure.
With their unique touch of the Faroese language, Dania and Ragnar use a language that everyone can relate to in a clever and sophisticated way. The same can be said about their productions and compositions, where they always seek an interesting and organic sound, mixed with layers of electronic elements, that you don’t really see coming. The music is light and intelligent with strong melodies and playful lyrics that make you stop and listen. A universe that is reflective and experimental, yet catchy and easy to get into. Now, once again, their pleasant voices merge together in a beautiful duet.

this street should be named after me you said and fixed your hair we’ve walked here a couple hundred times a year and in my dream tuesday night you asked
if I wanted to come with you to where the future still wasn’t real ‘cause it was you and me
this sweater would suit you well I said and handed you the hanger thinking that a cold-front was coming and that night on my computer I asked
if you wanted to come with me to when the future still wasn’t real ‘cause it was you and me
I thought I was writing about me but suddenly I see I’m talking to you would you follow me home?
I thought I was writing about you but suddenly I see I’m talking to me where I had moved on would you follow me home?
that perfume I got you in the tax free at the airport stood in line with me today wearing something blue and in another life I asked do you remember
when you wanted to come with me to where the future still wasn’t real ‘cause it was you and me
I thought I was writing about me but suddenly I see I’m talking to you would you follow me home?
