Description
Rising Nordic alt-pop singer Lea Kampann has revealed her new atmospheric electronic track ‘When I’m Sleeping Alone’.
Channeling the essence of Lorde on the beguiling new cut, Lea fuses pulsating synths with her confident and assured lyricism to create an alluring andethereal number. Explaining the song in more detail Lea explains,
“‘When I’msleeping alone’ is a song I wrote about my attempts at becoming a fan of myown company.”
She continues…
“I used to be scared of being alone which resulted in meseeking other people’s company all the time. I thought that my happinessdepended on other people, so I ran away from myself because I was scared ofwhat would appear in me, if I had nothing or no one to steal my attention awayfrom myself. At one point I moved to a new city, and as I didn’t have any familyor friends there, I ended up spending an endless amount of nights on my ownin my room. After a while I magically started liking it; my own company. Nowknowing that I can always choose to be alone and actually like it makes me somuch stronger and happier.”
‘When I’m Sleeping Alone’ follows on from a celebrated SPOT Festival showcase appearance and previous single ‘In Circles’ – a track that blends house-inspired synths with slow burning percussion, making for a standout glistening alt-pop gem. On previous work, such as her debut EP, Common Blue, Kampmann evidenced strong singer-songwriter roots, most notably with influences like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. But now her growth as an artist accommodates more modern sounds and visions. She was born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, to parents who played in grungebands – her father was also a songwriter and her mother a poet – moving to Copenhagen when Lea was still a young child. Starting her career writing songs for an imaginary Eurovision Song Contest, she began learning to play theviolin from the age of five.
In her mid-teens the singer formed a duo whilst still in school, but when thatcame to an end, her solo career took off, receiving critical acclaim and winningawards like Artist of the Year at the Faroese Music Awards in 2018 at thetender age of 20. Now with her brand of alluring and empathic alt-pop solidifi ed, Lea Kampmannis ready to take on the rest of the world.
