Fleks/Flex – Marius DC
Marius DC Flexes His Abilities On New Track
Faroese rapper Marius DC’s new single Flex is a first for the young rapper, a multilingual single, featuring both English and Faroese versions.
The song wastes no time getting started, leaping into the first chorus within the first 3 seconds, and the first line of the song: “Flex, Flex, DC count a lot of checks” makes the lyrical content of the cut clear. A two minute melodic tour de force of braggadocio and wordplay, Flex may not be the most thematically original rap song to come out in the past few years, but the simplistic beat, confident delivery and charming punchlines make for an irresistible cocktail.
The song may sound familiar to loyal fans, with the Faroese version of Flex first seeing the light of day during Marius’ winning performance in the Sement music competition back in May as one of five unreleased songs Marius performed with his newly assembled live band. The characteristically aggressive lyrics combined with the repetitive melody made it a stand out from day one, and all this (quite literally) translates very well in the English version.
With Flex, Marius DC is giving his attempt at tackling a myriad of familiar tropes and themes in modern hip hop, and passing with flying colors.
The single kicks of a busy couple of weeks for Marius DC, who playes two shows at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík next week. Earlier this month he hit the stage at the New Skool Rules festival in Rotterdam, flexing his abilities infront of a crowd including industry people, including labels, media and festivals.
