Sólarhvarv – Jógvan Andrias

Description

Jógvan Andrias Joensen is a poet, songwriter and folk-singer from Klaksvík. Faroe Islands. His first album Soleiðis saman was released in 1999.

Now he is back with the single “Sólarhvarv,” which he wrote after the solar eclipse in March of 2015.

Music listeners first became aware of Jógvan Andrias when he appeared with the song “Ljós í myrkri” on the album Amnesty tónar in 1991. This song became immensely popular on the Faroe Islands and received substantial radio airplay.

Jógvan Andrias worked with many skilled musicians as well as the Tórshavn men’s choir. The music and song writing is rooted in traditional Faroese folk music, such as the traditional Faroese ballads. The choir adds an atmosphere of this tradition.

Filled with inspiration, Jógvan Andrias wrote the words and music to “Sólarhvarv” in one day, and the result is the beautiful poem and song, which has now been released.

On the day of the solar eclipse, Jógvan Andrias was with his family and some 1000 other people. He was immensely fascinated with this, and says that he felt that he was not quite finished with the experience. This was what made him write the song. The title Sólarhvarv is a new word that was coined for an event that Jógvan Andrias organized together with many other people in on the day of the solar eclipse.

The track was recorded using the same procedure that was used for “Ljós í myrkri.” Some of the best musicians in the country were gathered. The track was recorded in Studio Bloch and the Tórshavn men’s choir also makes an appearance on this song.
