Faroese musician Supervisjón announces ‘AT TELDA’ the lead track from his forthcoming debut album Fast Trakk.
Released on TUTL Records – the leading representative and distributor of Faroese music worldwide – both the single and album see Lasse Jæger bring together frenetic footwork beats with heavily processed vocal samples from the Faroese poet Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger, in an intensely physical evocation of the vicissitudes of daily life.
‘AT TELDA’ roughly translates as the nonsense verb ‘to computer’, and it is this surreal edge to mundane, repetitive tasks – like cleaning the kitchen, going to work or arguing with a partner – that provided Lasse with inspiration for Fast Trakk as a whole. A kind of Kraftwerk-meets-juke ode to our co-dependency with digital life, ‘AT TELDA’ opens with Lív’s voice stuttering and glitching as if being fed through an overactive inkjet printer, before things really take off with gleefully repeated nonsense statements (“I love COMPUTER/I go to bed with COMPUTER”) playing call-and-response with Lasse’s elastic bleeps and sirens, all over a rowdy 160bpm clatter.
Says Lasse of the single:
“The first time I played this track live, it was at a small music venue in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, the crowd went bananas! I see my process as a kind of Dr. Frankenstein method; building a body of sound and rhythm to the point that it is too much. It becomes a monster. And from there on it is all about handling it and kind of clearing the way for it to roam freely.”
‘AT TELDA’ was mixed by Theresa Shaska aka DJ Girl, a Detroit-raised, Austin-based producer known for her footwork/juke hybrids, and Supervisjón’s clever blending of these sounds with quotidian themes results in both humour and space for reflection. It is also intensely danceable — as Lasse says: “If it moves, it works”.
The album Fast Trakk, to be released in October 2023, consists of ten tracks of Supervisjón’s unique take on footwork/juke, each one featuring Faroese vocals from Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger dealing with a different aspect of everyday life.
