Anna Iachino, born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada was raised with Italian born parents. Her dream of becoming a professional dancer was destroyed by her father’s strict, religious upbringing and use of corporal punishment. All she ever wanted to do was dance. Dancing became an escape and saved Anna’s being from the trauma she endured at the hands of her mother.
When dancing was denied to ever step foot in her parents’ household, Anna secretly started writing poetry fearing that one day she would be found out. The need to write was greater than the risk. It became the 2nd lifeline for Anna’s deep scars and emotions. Her career in the performing arts had stopped for 20 years, until she met the only Faroese artist in Montreal and moved to the Faroe Islands. It is there where Anna started her musical journey and inspired her to become an artist in the Faroe Islands.
Vocalist and songwriter, Anna Iachino started performing music as the frontwoman of MonkeyRat with composer, Arnold Ludvig on bass in 2006 in the Faroe Islands. In 2008, guitarist Alain Apaloo started performing with the band in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2010, MonkeyRat released their debut album, Fuck The Jante Law to great success performing at the G! Festival and Festivals around Denmark. Anna released, Sunshine, their 2nd album in 2012, with Danish drummer, Jens Stoklund, followed by an EP with the Hentze Horns in 2016, including a single. In 2018, MonkeyRat released a gospel/hip hop hit single, “Get into the Light” with Debbie Cameron, Deborah Herbert, Joanita Zachariassen. In 2020, MonkeyRat released “Good Morning Reykjavík”, a funk banger that Anna co-composed and pop hit, “U Gotta Love Being U ft. Alain Apaloo”, In 2022, MonkeyRat released “The Child”, a bedroom/dream pop single ft. Anna Sofia Skoradal and Anna’s critical acclaim composition, “Isolation ft. Alain Apaloo” on guitar.
In 2022, Anna graduated with a master’s in music in the NAIP program, New Music & Innovative Practises at Iceland University of the Arts. It is there where she worked endlessly to learn how to compose and perform music on Ableton Live. Anna is thankful to her teacher, Kurt Uenala (producer of Depeche Mode) and Arnold Ludvig. She never liked buttons, and she never thought she would become and have so much fun as an electronic composer and Ableton Live producer and performer.
In 2024, Anna released “Niels Uni Dam”, “What A Crazy World ft. Alain Apaloo”, and “Where’s The Peace ft. Ayi Solomon, MonkeyRat’s 1st African inspired song and collaboration.
On November 19th, Pluto entered Aquarius and will be in Aquarius for the next 20 years. That’s quite Plutonic for an Aquarius thought Anna to herself. Hence, the inspiration for the birth of a new musical ride into the realm of club dance beat electronic music by Plutonic.
