In Torment Triumphant – Iron Lungs

Producer catalog: HJF420

Tracks: 5

Description

In loving memory of Mikkjal G. Hansen.

When most other local metal bands stayed true to either death, black or thrash metal, Iron Lungs emerged, experimenting with a cluster of different elements from various genres. In the process creating something cohesive, yet oddly foreign. With every member coming from a different musical background, bringing different influences to the table, and with writing contributions from Fríði Djurhuus AKA Joe Shit of Joe & The Shitboys, and pop star Danny Baldurson, an anomaly was born. Being the oddball of the local metalscene, the band has played at a variety of different events across the faroes, from G! Festival to a fancy book release party in Tjørnuvík.

Fronted by the powerhouse that is the one and only Mikkjal G. Hansen formerly of SIC, and his unmistakable screams and roars spouting tales from greek to egyptian mythologies, to the dystopian science fiction world of Harlan Ellison. On the album opener ‘Light Eather’ Jón Aldará of Hamferð makes an appearance with his demonic growls and operatic voice.

The songs on ‘In Torment Triumphant’ are groove based mid-tempo epics with unusual song structures filled with tempo changes and odd time signatures, making the listener guessing where the songs will go at every turn. Soaring guitar melodies, haunting and atmospheric chordprogressions, caveman riffs, ferocious blastbeats, and the roaring low end of a bass guitar summoned from the depths of hell. Elements from Metalcore, death metal, progressive and groove metal are mixed together to form this monstrosity of an album.

With this release we also want to honor and remember our beloved friend Mikkjal G. Hansen, the most powerful frontman the Faroe Islands have ever had.

It Stalks These Fields of Crystals

Words: Fríði Djurhuus & Heini Djurhuus
Music: Benjamin Joensen, Fríði Djurhuus, Heini Djurhuus, Jógvan Johannessen, Martin Neslíð

Eyes agape scorched by illumination
Nocturnal sky is clear
Radiant architecture surrounds me
Crystallized statues form a course
Through the desert sands
Motion onwards
Sculptures victim of degradation
A being lurks in the shadows

Disoriented
Amnesia
Solitude
Haunts me
It stalks these fields of crystals

A giant figure
Eclipses the moon
Luminous eyes
Scaly lizard

Sinking into the ground
Desert sand washes over me
Skin subject to crystallization
Emitting azure beams

Disoriented
Amnesia
Solitude
Haunts me

It stalks these fields of crystals

Promethean

Words: Fríði Djurhuus & Heini Djurhuus
Music: Benjamin Joensen, Fríði Djurhuus, Heini Djurhuus, Jógvan Johannessen, Martin Neslíð

Standing alone corrupting flesh
Conceal the bone disguised as fresh
Tricked at Mecone a titan’s enmeshed
Chained to a stone as the vultures thresh

Tortured martyr
Disregarded ghost
Hopeless

Eternal
Suffering
Theft of flames
Exploiting

Rancid

Shell
Hell
Base
Grace

The militant torsion of a promethean sentry
Betrayal of overseers
Excommunicated Olympian
Unrecognized sacrifice for subordinate beings

Eternal
Suffering
Theft of flames
Exploiting

Break your chains
Swell your core
Cripple the vultures
Unleash the fighting titan

Absorb your defiant creation
Forethought births contemplation
Behold
Birthed by your undying mark
Undying mark
