Description
Always on the Run
The indie rock band Fremmand (FO/DK) releases the EP Always On The Run, which is a follow-up to the latest successful album “Wrong” (Tutl Records 2021). On the EP, Fremmand shows a new musical side of himself. By The Ocean is a bright and dreamy song that contrasts with Recognition, where Fremmand shows his teeth, and you can feel the desperation. The title song, “Always On The Run”, gives associations with the ’80s New Wave and was made in collaboration with guitarist Peter Hayes from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who also appears on both of Fremmand’s two albums. The band’s regular collaborator, Michael Patterson (Nine Inch Nails/Beck), has mixed the EP in Los Angeles.
Quotes from the press:
“Highly reminiscent of Depeche Mode and New Order, ‘Always On The Run’ has an eeriness about it captivating your senses and plucking at your heartstrings. It won’t be long until Jana Hjalgrimsdóttir is in the league of iconic Annie Lennox and Fremmand’s music will be on everyone’s playlists.”
– Nicole Mendes, The others of reviews
“Taking some musical cues from Gothic rock, there’s a hint of HIM and the early releases of The Cure about the song Always On The Run. However, Jana Hjalgrímsdóttir’s vocals add slivers of golden light into the dark and brooding post-punk sound that pervades every moment and every note. The vocal interplay with Peter Hayes gives the song a sense of narcotic abandon, full of longing, regret, and escape. This isn’t a song you’ll want to leave behind, however, as it works its way under your skin and into your soul.”
– Mark Buckley, Analogue Trash

Always on the Run
Words: Jana Hjalgrímsdóttir
Music: Tobias Weltzer, Peter Hayes
You – Heard it all before
Don’t know why I bother to
Talk – Words don’t mean a thing
Walk – That is what I’m going for
That is what I am going for
That is what I am going for
Smile – Wanted you to give me one
Out – Is all I really asking for
You – To let the moving flow
Through – The space that has been ginning us
That is what I am going for
That is what I am going for
You – Light up a cigarette
Smoke – Hiding in the grey
Clouds – Always on the run
You – Always on the run
That is what we’re going for
That is what we’re going for
That is what we’re going for
By the Ocean
Words & music: Jana Hjalgrímsdóttir, Tobias Weltzer
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
I have seen the darkest hour
I felt the stones against my body
The soothing winds of highest being
But nothing takes me back to you
Take me back to the stones and the soothing winds of high
Just as long as the sea takes me back to the light of you
Take me back to the stones and the soothing winds of high
Just as long as the sea takes me back to the light of you
Take a deep breath by the ocean
Take a deep breath by the ocean
Take a long walk by the ocean
Take a long walk by the ocean
Take me back to the stones and the soothing winds of high
Just as long as the sea takes me back to the light of you
Take me back to the stones and the soothing winds of high
Just as long as the sea takes me back to the light of you
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
Take me back to the stones
Just as long as the sea takes me back
Take me back to the stones
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu
Just as long as the sea takes me back
Uuuuuu, uhuuuu

Recognition
Words: Jana Hjalgrímsdóttir
Music: Jana Hjalgrímsdóttir, Tobias Weltzer
Giving it all in recognition
True colours flow through you
Giving it all in recognition
Oh, you, my love, my gold
Everything fades, is disappearing
Spinning wild into the night
What good is a sound, if never felt
Oh, my love, my gold
In open space
All colors gold
You sitting there
All colours love
Giving it all in recognition
Giving it all my love
Giving it all in recognition
Oh, my love, my gold
Giving it all my love
My love, my gold
All my love
