Laurens Joensen

‘Skipini Sova’ is the debut single of Faroese/ Dutch songwriter Laurens Joënsen.
It is a musical tribute to his father, a Faroese musician who passed away in 2018.
The song is a folky lullaby, the title means ‘Sleeping ships’.
In the song he reflects on life, saying goodbye, and becoming a father himself.
The songs was recorded in the spring of 2019 in Laurens’ studio in Amsterdam.
He plays all the instruments himself and it also features his fathers old double bass.
This is the first time Laurens sings in the language of his father.
The Faroese lyrics are made in collaboration with the Faroese troubadour Martin Joensen.

Lyrics:
Sleeping ships (translated lyrics)

There are times to rest in the daytime
There are times to reset your goals
There are times to harvest success
There are times to search your soul

And at night the ships are sleeping
And slowly you drift by
The sails of dust have been lowered
Where you are going, I can’t come along

Once I had a father and mother
But my father went another way
A while ago he found me in my dreams
I felt him standing behind me

And at night the ships are sleeping
And slowly you drift by
The sails of dust have been lowered
Where you are going I can’t come along
