Chanett (Ann Chanett Danielsen) is a 37-year-old singer and songwriter from the Faroe Islands. This is the first time she releases her own music as a solo artist. She was a part of the Faroese female pop/rock group FLAMMA that released its debut album in 2014. In 2015 she released three of her own songs with the electronic/pop duo Mahanna.
Ever since she was a young girl, Chanett has been singing and dancing. Her mother says that she was singing even before she could talk. So, music has always been a part of Chanett’s life and has defined her as a person. She has been writing songs as long as she can remember. At first, she just used her voice as an instrument and recorded the songs with a tape recorder. A couple of years ago she taught herself to play the ukulele, and since then the ukulele has played a significant role in her songwriting.
Chanett was born and spent the first years of her childhood in Klaksvík, which is the second largest town in the Faroe Islands. She moved with her family to the capital, Tórshavn, and here she joined a children’s choir. As a teenager she joined a rhythmical youth choir, and this led to her getting leading roles in several musicals. She played the role of the character Robin in the musical Godspell and sang the song Day by Day. She also played the role of the singing narrator in the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. When she had finished high school, she went to the Musical Academy in Fredericia, Denmark.
Today, Chanett is the mother of two beautiful girls, Agnes Amalia (13) and Jóhanna (11), and the love for them has been her inspiration when writing the song Mítt alt (My All).
